Can you provide more insights into Milestone Systems’ participation in Intersec 2024?
At this year’s Intersec, we’ve collaborated with 12 technology providers, presenting a varied spectrum of solutions. These encompass advanced analytics, access control, and inventive applications tailored for health, and safety monitoring and city policing.
How does Milestone Systems envision its role in leading the charge for safer and more efficient environments within the rapidly changing security industry in the Middle East?
One of the key aspects, I suppose, is our commitment to using technology for good. Everything we do is underpinned by the desire to ensure that things are done properly and for the right reasons. We are renowned as a company that provides technology and solutions in the safety and security industry, and that commitment to positive change remains at the core of our mission.
We are continuously enhancing and expanding our portfolio. We achieve this through in-house developments, but we also collaborate with various partners, as you can see here, to showcase solutions that can improve safety not only in this region but beyond.
Your latest release mentioned two pivotal trends – Synthetic Data and Responsible Technology – shaping the data-driven video technology space. Could you elaborate on how Milestone Systems is incorporating these trends into its solutions?
AI plays a significant role. Machine learning and other advanced technologies rely heavily on learning from data to improve their performance and reduce errors. Synthetic data comes into play when you want to capture real-life video, which may inadvertently include individuals who haven’t given their permission and may feel uncomfortable. With synthetic data, these concerns are eliminated. You can efficiently train the system without any cultural or discomfort issues related to anyone in the periphery.
As I said, using synthetic data to assist in training artificial intelligence and machine learning systems eliminates the risk of inadvertently using sensitive or biased data and imagery. Not only are people uncomfortable with certain types of data, but as a species, humans sometimes exhibit unconscious bias. Consequently, our training data may inadvertently introduce biases into AI systems. However, when we utilise synthetic data, it remains entirely neutral, consistently providing a balanced view and ensuring the correct answers without biases.
We strive to use technology for good. But, we don’t always rely on synthetic data because there are instances when we have to use live data due to customer demand. In this particular case and free-flowing live feeds, utilising synthetic data is a very wise approach.
As the industry anticipates growth, what specific smart solutions is Milestone Systems unveiling to meet the evolving needs of the region?
One of the best aspects of Milestone is that it’s an open platform. While we continuously develop and enhance our offerings, we also maintain a vast ecosystem of technology partners who are continually advancing their solutions. Our goal is to ensure that we remain open and can seamlessly integrate with the latest innovations and technologies.
Whether it’s the latest biometric access control system for government use, enhancing safety measures for schools or universities, or any other specific needs, if one of our third-party technology partners has developed a solution, it can be easily integrated within our platform. This approach combines our commitment to innovation and forward-thinking with the contributions of our extensive network of technology partners.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that when you attend events like this, you’ll find that our technology partners are never the same each time. We have a diverse array of partners, each with slightly different use cases and solutions.
