Google has announced a definitive agreement to acquire New York-based cloud security firm Wiz. in a $32 billion all-cash deal, pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Once finalised, Wiz will become part of Google Cloud, reinforcing its security capabilities in the AI-driven cloud era.
Strengthening cloud security
The acquisition aims to enhance Google Cloud’s leadership in cloud security and multicloud solutions. Wiz offers a user-friendly security platform that integrates with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud, helping organisations proactively prevent cybersecurity threats.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, emphasised the company’s long-standing focus on security, stating: “From its earliest days, Google has been a leader in keeping people safe online. Businesses and governments operating in the cloud now seek even stronger security and greater choice in cloud providers. Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will accelerate advancements in cloud security and multi-cloud capabilities.”
Expanding cybersecurity solutions
Wiz’s platform is widely adopted by organisations of all sizes, including startups, enterprises, and government agencies, to secure cloud operations and prevent cyber threats. The acquisition is expected to boost security automation, lower security management costs, and strengthen protection against AI-powered threats.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, highlighted the shared vision between both companies: “Google Cloud and Wiz are committed to making cybersecurity more accessible and user-friendly across industries. Wiz’s products will remain available across all major cloud platforms and through partner security solutions in the Google Cloud Marketplace.
